Rio Branco, the capital-city of the state of Acre, was founded
on June 13, 1904, under the name of “Seringal Empresa” (Rubber
Plantation Company), by a businessman from Ceará
named Newtel Maia. The city is crossed by the Acre River,
that divides it in two areas, known as first and Second
District, The latter is the way of access for visitors from
other regions of the country.
Chico Mendes Park
The Park was inspired in the dream of the seringueiro leader
Chico Mendes, of harmonic coexistence of the technological
progress promoted by men and the preservation of nature.
It comprises a primary forest, a zoo, replicas of malocas
(Indian villages) and of the “colocações de
seringueiros” (dwellings of rubber-tappers, and also the
work place where they manufacture the rubber ball) the Estrada
de Seringa, the Chico Mendes Memorial and a biking trail.
